Panchak Yogam - Kaal Nakshtras
Panchak means group of ‘Five’ (Panch). Panchak Yog is happened while the Moon transits through Aquarius & Meen rashi respectively in every month and it is a phase of Five days hence known as Panchak Yog or Kaal. Panchak Yog period continues for approximately 5 days and it is not auspicious in nature.

In simple words the duration of placement of Moon in Aquarius or Pisces is known as Panchak Yog. It is also called Dhanishtha Panchak. According to some people the person who is born in Dhanishtha Nakshatra of Panchak Yog may be physically challenged. In some places, the first half of Dhanishtha Nakshatra is considered inauspicious.

Following five Nakshatras are principally known as a Panchak Yog/Kaal Nakshtras
  1. Dhanishtha (Last two parts) What-is-Panchak-Yog
  2. Shatbhisha
  3. Purvabhadrapada
  4. Utrabhadrapada
  5. Revati.
There are certain things which a person can’t pursue during Panchak Yog because of its malefic effects.

The period of Panchak doesn’t arrive for once or twice but it is an occurrence that takes place after every 27 days approximately. Therefore, it’s necessary for a person to keep check on the dates of Panchak.

There are a few specific tasks that can end badly if undertaken during the Panchak.  Whereas; some work can also prove to be highly beneficial. What is required to know is the time on which Panchak will happen and the work that should be denied or pursued.

Preventions in Panchak Yogam
  • A terrace should not be constructed in the Revati Nakshtra. If in any case this has to be done, then distribute the sweets to workers or labors.
  • During Panchak Kaal funeral of a dead body can be very dangerous as it might result into 5 more deaths nearby in that family or nearby. As, cremating a dead body is can’t be avoided in any case, in that case perform Shantikarma with absolute faith to burn up a body with five other bodies made by flour and grass and should cremate with the dead body properly as if it also a dead body.
  • In the Panchak Kaal, one should not travel to the South direction because the South direction is considered as the direction to ‘Yam’, so it is inauspicious.
  • During the Panchak Yog, bed should not be prepared.
  • In Dhanishtha nakshtra, one should not collect grass or wooden fuel since there is a fear of fire
  • According to the Scriptures at the time of finding the Muhurat (auspicious time), for Marriage and Mundan, Hindu-system Panchak Yog this time must be checked
Other auspicious occasions like bhoomi poojan, house warming ceremony and upnayan sanskaar etc. are not illegal in Panchak Kaal. Also, festivals like Bhai Dooj, Raksha Bandhan are also not prohibited in Panchak Yog.
