Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2017 - Significance, Time and Muhurath
Janmashtami is celebrated with fervour across World. This year, Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 14. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Krishna was born on ‘Ashtami’ or the ‘eighth day’ at midnight in the holy month of Shravana. In India the festival is celebrated in states like Mathura, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra pradesh and in the northeastern states like Assam and Manipur.
The ‘shubh muhurat’ for the festival will begin at 12:03 am on August 14 and will continue till 12:25am on August 15. The devotees can offer prayers during this duration.
The coinciding of Rohini nakshtra and Ashtami has made the festival of Janmashtami extra special as the prayers offered are likely to yield more fruitful results.

The birth of Lord Krishna will be celebrated by devotees at the midnight on August 25.

Right time to offer prayers:
  • For the followers of Vaishnava Sampradaya, the festival falls on August 15 and their Parana starts at 5:54am.
  • Nishita Puja Time: 12:03am to 12:47 am
  • Midnight time of Nishita phase is 12:25 am
  • On August 15,Parana Time: After 5:39 pm
  • Ashtami Tithi End Time: 5:39 pm
